Background to the Greytown Districts Trust Lands Trust

We are a non-profit organisation, governed by an Act of Parliament. The trust has its origins in the late 1800 's when it was set up to hold land on behalf of the Greytown community, to provide land on which new residents could build houses. The activity of the trust has changed over the years and it now owns and manages property (generally) on a commercial basis, with all profits being made available to the community. The residential properties are now a relatively small component of the portfolio to commercial interests.

While most properties are situated in Greytown the trust owns property in other Wairarapa towns, and one large investment in Wanganui.

The purpose of the trust is to provide assistance for the advancement of education, educational facilities, and the advancement/improvement of the “public wellbeing” of the Greytown District community.
